The Western Electricity Coordinating Council Inc. (WECC) is a non-profit corporation that promotes the reliability of the electricity grid in the geographic area known as the Western Interconnection.
The Western Interconnection includes BC, Alberta, Northern Baja Mexico, and 14 western States including Washington, Oregon and California. Electric utilities in the Western Interconnection are connected via transmission facilities and exchange energy between themselves.
WECC is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with NERC‘s Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) program. In BC, WECC assists the BCUC, which has primary jurisdiction for MRS compliance and enforcement.
