CleanBC is a BC government program. It used to come under the Ministry of the Environment, but in late 2024 moved to the Ministry of Energy.
According to the CleanBC web site, it is “government’s plan to lower climate-changing emissions by 40% by 2030.” This is the target set out in the BC Climate Change Accountability Act.
The CleanBC Plan was announced on December 5, 2018.
The CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 was published on December 20, 2021. In the roadmap, the government described a broad range of methods to achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. In addition to increased electrification, the roadmap was supportive of other emission reduction methods such as the use of renewable natural gas and carbon capture and storage.
The most recent report from the BC government on its progress towards achieving its climate goals is from 2024.
On May 7, 2025, the government announced a review of CleanBC, expected to be complete “in late fall 2025.”
